: Daniel Winkler became a fulltime knifemaker in 1988 and received accreditation as an American Bladesmith Society master bladesmith in 1993. He has spent more than three decades studying and perfecting the nuances and handmade knives. Winkler Knives is a custom manufacturing operation that represents the evolution of Mastersmith Daniel Winkler’s knifemaking expertise coupled with the needs and field experience of Tier 1 Special Operations Teams from around the world.
This tool was crafted in the Winkler Knives shop in Northwestern North Carolina by skilled Blue Ridge Mountain artisans. It was created to provide unfailing performance and to last a lifetime. The Winkler Knives touch mark represents their unwavering commitment to producing the highest quality knives, axes, and breaching tools available.
This axe incorporates features from the four team-specific Breaching/Combat axes that Daniel is making for SOF Teams. The 1-1/2 lb. weight is the same as those carried by elite operators. A milled, full length integral tang lessens overall weight and provides a no-fail handle. The handle is made of green laminate, which holds up well to the heavy demands of outdoor use. An integral glass breaker extends beyond the end of the handle. Forward weight distribution packs an effective blow, while a secondary hand grip under the head gives the option of quick action when needed. The blade is 80CrV2 carbon steel coated with a non-reflective Caswell finish. Overall length is 14″. The length from cutting edge to spike is approximately 5-7/8″. The cutting edge is 2-1/3″ long.
