: This majestic backlock interframe folder was made by Warren Osbourne. This knife is stamped PROTOTYPE and is the first of this model. It has been in a private collection and has been meticulously cared for. By all appearances, it could have been made yesterday.
Warren Osborne lived in Waxahachie, TX. He was a full time knifemaker and sold his first custom knife in 1980. Osborne became a probationary Knifemakers Guild member in 1985. He later became a voting member and served on the Guild’s board of directors for a number of years. He is well known for his investment-grade folders as well as his designs that are still made by Benchmade today. In 2014, Warren was noted by Blade Magazine as among the top custom makers of the years 2001-2012. Warren passed away in Jan. 2016.
Warren Osborne started with deceivingly simple lines and worked them to perfection. The dagger ground blade was hand ground from Mike Norris stainless damascus. The flat grinds nicely show off the damascus’ inherent pattern.
The handle is 416 stainless steel and was engraved by Sam Alfano. Sam is renowned for his skill in both scroll engraving and bulino figures. Floral scroll engraving interlaces with 24kt gold inlay and surrounds exhibition grade black lip mother of pearl inlays. The ‘bolster’ region of each scale show a detailed engraved woman. This is surrounded by a 24kt gold frame.
The blade is well centered and has silky smooth action. Exceptional work throughout.
