: Kurt Allen Swearingen is a bladesmith from New Mexico that has been making knives since 2007. He learned forging and heat treating techniques from Mastersmith Lin Rhea and handle design and fit up from Mastersmith Dickie Robinson. He earned his journeyman smith rating in 2014 with the American Bladesmith Society. His fit and finish is exceptional. This knife was kept in a private collection since it was made. It is in brand new condition, and by all appearances, Kurt could have made it yesterday!
The 8-1/8 inch blade is made from Kurt’s own twist pattern damascus, forged from carbon steels to ensure excellent chip resistance and edge holding. The high contrast, dense pattern is extremely engaging and encourages further examination. A domed spine culminates into a evenly ground swedge. His maker mark and J.S. mark are both on the left side of the blade.
The handle combines an amber stag brow tine with African blackwood spacers. An twist pattern damascus escutcheon is set on the left side of the handle. Alternating black fiber and copper spacers will help the natural materials adjust to humidity and temperature changes in the field. A matching twist damascus guard finishes out the handle.
To keep the knife close at hand, a brown tooled leather custom sheath is included.
