: This damascus bowie is the work of John April of Massachusetts. John has been a knife enthusiast since the 80’s and is currently a part time knifemaker. This knife was featured in Blade Magazine’s May 2020 edition. It was kept in a private collection since it was made. It is in brand new condition and by all appearances it could have been made yesterday!
The ball bearing damascus was hand forged by David Lavoie from carbon steel ball bearings. The pattern is high contrast and engaging. The blade is flat ground and has even-ground bevels. The top clip stops just short of being fully sharpened. John’s touchmark is on the left ricasso. Because the knife is forged from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to protect the blade and mammoth ivory handle.
The terraced coffin handle combines mammoth ivory and fileworked stainless steel liners set on a snakewood frame. The pins are hand domed throughout. The mammoth ivory, taken from the interior of the tusk, is well matched in cream tones. The handle is finished with a polished stainless steel guard and spacers.
To keep the knife close at hand, a leather custom sheath with alligator leather overlay is included. A retention strap ensures a great fit.
