: Johann van Deventer, better known as JD, aims to produce unique knives of the highest degree of craftsmanship. He took up knife making in 2005 and became a member of the Knifemaker’s Guild of Southern Africa by 2007. He works in a one man shop and even builds most of his machines himself! He is clearly a maker to keep an eye on.
This Framelock folder is an extremely practical, yet elegant EDC — designed for daily carry and daily use. Weighing in at just over 2-1/2 oz, it is easy to keep close at hand and not even notice it is in your pocket. The blade is well centered with smooth action and is easy to open and close with one hand. The gent’s front flipper mechanism is designed to be an easy single handed open by rotating with the thumb or first finger.
The blade is N690 stainless steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it. Increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. The grinds are stonewash finished and the flats are hand rubbed satin finished.
The front frame is black G-10 meticulously inlaid with mammoth molar. The 30,000 year old tooth adds tremendous contrast and is absolutely beautiful! The back frame is stonewashed titanium. The G-10 backbar keeps the knife rigid, yet light. This thin-profiled handle is compact enough to keep in the pocket and never notice it until it is needed. The pierced, deep-carry titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-side, tip-down carry.
