: Johan Hendrik De Wet resides in Honeydew, Gauteng, South Africa and focuses on making quality fixed blades intended to be used. As a young boy, Johan’s father was good friends with reknowned knifemaker Rob Brown. Brown’s knives left a lasting impression on Johan, inspiring him to make his own knives. After a visit with fellow South African bladesmith Neels van den Berg in 2017, Johan began his journey. He joined the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa in 2019 and is also a member of the Southern African Bladesmiths Association. Johan’s knives feature classic designs with great ergonomics.
The blade is 14C28N, a stainless steel made by Sandvik in Sweden. 14C28N is tough, chip, resistant, highly corrosive resistant, and has great edge retention making it perfect for a blade that may be used for many different chores. The hollow ground blade is razor sharp. Johan’s maker mark is on the left side.
The hand contoured handle is tan Micarta secured to a full tang using three pins. The domed scales fill out your hand nicely and provide excellent grip. A large choil cutout in the handle prevents the hand from sliding over the blade.
To keep the blade close at hand, a handmade pouch style leather sheath is included.
