: Charlie Ellis first struck hot steel in 2005 and has since traveled from Maine to North Carolina in pursuit of the perfect blade. In 2007, he enrolled in the Hand Wrought Metals program at Haywood College in Clyde, North Carolina. There, he learned a great deal from David Burnette, Mastersmith Jason Knight, as well as a host of others through the school’s partnership with the American Bladesmith Society. Since 2014, he has been a full time blacksmith living in the mountains of western North Carolina with his wife and son.
The blade was hand forged by Charlie from 1084 carbon steel to provide exceptional edge retention. 1084 is tough and chip resistant. Forge texturing along the flats shows Charlie forged the knife closely to shape for optimal grain structure. An armor piercing tip provides extreme strength for heavy duty penetration. A mustard patina finish helps hide light reflection. Because the blade is made from carbon steel, we recommend using camellia oil to inhibit rust.
Brown Micarta liners are set to the full tang using hand domed copper pins. A Japanese-inspired epoxy-soaked nylon cord is wrapped around the handle for additional grip. The thin-profiled handle is lightweight and will be easy to conceal.
To keep the knife close at hand, a Holstex sheath is included. The sheath is designed for horizontal carry and features copper pins for a nice final touch.
