: French knifemaker Jean-Pierre Martin makes an exceptional gentleman’s folder. A lover of technique and precision, Jean-Pierre started his career as an auto mechanic and later became a self taught blacksmith. This love for working with his hands led him to the world of high end cutlery. Today he is considered one of the great French cutlery makers and his work is rarely seen outside of France. We were extremely pleased to be able to meet with him at the 2022 Blade Show and present some of his work here in the United States!
The blade rotates on washers and has silky-smooth action. The perfectly centered blade can be deployed easily using the ambidextrous flipper tab or using the jimped front flipper tab.
The blade is hand ground RWL-34 stainless steel with a meticulous hand rubbed satin finish. RWL-34 is a premium powder metallurgy cutlery steel manufactured by ERASTEEL in Söderfors, Sweden. Because it is made from rapidly solidified powders, the microstructure of the steel is much more uniform. This gives the steel much higher strength and resistance to cracks and chips. Jimping on the spine provides an excellent thumb purchase.
Handle scales are unidirectional carbon fiber. Barrel spacers and a nested side lock keep the knife incredibly lightweight at only 2 ounces! The contoured scales fill your hand nicely and provide a comfortable grip.
A black leather pouch with Martin’s mark is included to carry the knife safely in the pocket.
