Daniel Winkler became a fulltime knifemaker in 1988 and received accreditation as an American Bladesmith Society master bladesmith in 1993. He has spent more than three decades studying and perfecting the nuances and handmade knives. Winkler Knives is a custom manufacturing operation that represents the evolution of Mastersmith Daniel Winkler’s knifemaking expertise coupled with the needs and field experience of Tier 1 Special Operations Teams from around the world.
This tool was crafted in the Winkler Knives shop in Northwestern North Carolina by skilled Blue Ridge Mountain artisans. It was created to provide unfailing performance and to last a lifetime. The Winkler Knives touch mark represents their unwavering commitment to producing the highest quality knives, axes, and breaching tools available.
A full length integral tang lessens overall weight and provides a no-fail handle. To reduce the weight for perfect balance, the tang is skeletonized. Forward weight distribution packs an effective blow. The Hunter’s Axe LT features a hammer portion of the head for tasks that require some good old-fashioned pounding. The steel is finished with a non-reflective Caswell black oxide finish.
The handle is made from maple wood. A lanyard hole in the end gives you the option to add an extra bit of security. The natural wood provides a sure, comfortable grip. Overall length is approximately 9 inches. The cutting edge is approximately 2 inches. From hammer to cutting edge measures approx. 4-1/2 inches.
