: We were pleased to meet Johan van der Walt at the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa Annual Knife Show. Johan is from Johannesburg, South Africa and is creating some exceptional handmade folding knives. He builds working folders inteded for use, though they would feel right at home in any knife collection.
The blade on this JB-3 Linerlock Flipper is M390 stainless steel. M390 is a super-steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it due to a high concentration of vanadium and chromium carbides. Its unique powder metallurgical process also promotes a uniform carbide distribution and clean steel properties, making M390 a popular steel used in surgical cutting instruments and in applications requiring a high finish. It offers excellent corrosion resistance due to its high concentration of chromium. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. The grinds of the blade are a hand rubbed satin finish while the flats of the blade are brought to a polish.
Handle scales are black G-10 inlaid with Red Dark Matter FatCarbon. The scales are set on bead blasted titanium liners. A matching Red Dark Matter FatCarbon pivot collar surrounds the pivot. The 3D machined titanium pocket clip is bead blasted and mounted for right-side, tip-up carry.
