: Andre van Heerden started making handmade folders shortly after his start in 2002 and his natural talent at the craft is readily apparent. His dedication to use exacting standards and quality materials produce pieces that are superior in build and elegant in design. From lockup to fit and finish — let alone edge holding — Andre’s knives are in a league of their own. These days, we mostly see his efforts with A2 knives. It’s exciting to get his own precision-made work. The model M17 was among Andre’s most popular models. This M17 flipper was kept in a private collection since it was made in 2010. It is in brand new condition and by all appearances, it could have been made yesterday.
The blade is hand ground 12C27 stainless steel created by Sandvik in Sweden. The grinds are satin finished and the flats are polished to accentuates the unique, crisp grind lines. The blade is perfectly centered and has silky-smooth action, due to the IKBS (Ikoma Koth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create smooth action with no blade play.
3D machined G10 provides a sure, comfortable grip. Bronze anodized titanium liners and a titanium backbar keep the knife light and fast. It is easy to keep this handmade folder close at hand with the titanium pocket clip mounted for right-side, tip-up carry.
