: Minnesota bladesmith Cody Hofsommer has had a passion for knifemaking since he was young. He started learning the art of blacksmithing in 2003 and has hand-forged many knives over the years. His goal is to make a quality piece of art that can also be a practical useful tool. He received his journeyman certification through the American Bladesmith Society in 2018. He competed on History Channel’s show, Forged in Fire and was named champion after making a damascus pattern Spanish Conquistador sword (season 7 episode 18, aired January 22, 2020). We met Cody at the 2021 Blade Show in Atlanta, Georgia and were immediately blown away by his exceptional quality of work. His custom knives are some of the most refined you will ever encounter. We’re keeping a close eye on Cody and expect him to become one of the ‘greats’.
Cody forged the mosaic damascus pattern from 1080 and 15n20 carbon steels, ensuring excellent edge holding and chip resistance. The complex pattern is extremely engaging and is a joy to look at. The blade is perfectly ground from side to side and features a swedge that travels approximately half way up the blade. Cody’s mark is on the left side of the blade and his JS mark is on the right side.
The handle is a premium section of golden amboyna burl, secured to the tang using a hand domed pin. The swirling figure complements the damascus blade well. A domed damascus spacer is perfectly fit to the handle and guard. The 416 stainless steel guard is satin finished. The contoured handle fills your hand and offers a comfortable grip.
To keep the knife close at hand, a hand tooled leather sheath handmade by Cody is included. A damascus frog is a nice touch to this high quality sheath.
