: Anders specializes in combining traditional Japanese techniques with those of his native Sweden. Anders uses a traditional Japanese method of heat treating a blade that involves coating the spine of the knife in clay, resulting in the dramatic hamon (temper line) as well as creating a knife with superior edge-holding ability. This exceptional Hogstrom knife has been in a private collection. It has been meticulously cared for and is in new condition. By all appearances, Anders could have made it yesterday.
The blade shape is inspired by the Japanese tanto, with its straight edge and sudden up-turn. The gunome (repetitive wave pattern) hamon is particularly well developed and shows off Anders’s skill at its best.
The handle is hand contoured stabilized buckeye burl. The presentation grade wood has a nice mix of grey and brown tones set against its dramatic figure. The fit between blade and textured and antiqued bronze bolster is perfect, as is the fit between handle and bolster.
The knife is accompanied by a hand tooled traditional Swedish leather sheath.
