: Mastersmith Jay Hendrickson creates the quintessential American hunting knife. His work is something that always catches my immediate attention, with a fit and finish that is rarely found elsewhere. This Curly Maple Clip Point Hunter has been in a private collection since Hendrickson made it in 2005. It has been meticulously cared for and by all appearances, Jay could have made it yesterday. This is a spectacular example of Jay’s work at its best.
The hand forged, differentially heat treated 5160 carbon steel blade is satin finished. The appleseed grind that is a hallmark of his work creates an edge that is durable while being super-sharp. Jay’s mark is on the left side of the blade.
The curly maple handle is sculpted for a perfect feel in the hand. A distal tapered tang and blade ensure a perfect balance. Fine silver inlay creates an heirloom appearance.
The knife is accompanied by the original hand stitched, pouch style leather sheath — also in new condition.
