The blade is high performing Damacore, forged by Damasteel in Sweden. This exciting steel composition combines a high performing core of nitrogen based N11X, surrounded by alternating outer layers of stainless damascus (combining RWL34 and PMC27 martensitic stainless steels). N11X has a comparable composition to nitrogen based Vanax SuperClean which is known for having both high wear resistance and high toughness against chipping or cracking. Des performs a particularly good (and complicated!) heat treatment, resulting in optimal edge holding. The blade was hardened then cryogenically quenched in liquid nitrogen and double tempered. The indent and release balls are silicon nitride (Hrc 93!). Anodized grade V titanium liners surround the carbon fiber backbar and are fileworked.
Handle scales are stainless damascus forged by Damasteel in Sweden. This stainless damascus is created using powder metallurgical steel manufacturing to provide unmatched beauty. Des hardened the scales to ensure they are more scuff resistant. Hand fileworked, anodized titanium liners keep this folder rigid, yet light.
Des’ craftsmanship means that this unusual locking mechanism works smoothly and comfortably. The front flipper opener is easy to use — it is designed for easy single handed opening and closing rather than a modern ‘flicking’ flipper. The blade is perfectly centered and has smooth, consistent action.
To keep this knife close at hand, Des included a leather pocket pouch to protect the knife.
