: Willem Steenkamp was accepted as a member of the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA) in May of 2007. His attention to detail is clearly evident in his knives. His fit and finish rivals that of the best makers found anywhere. This knife has been in a single private collection in South Africa. It is an early knife from Willem — prior to his joining the KGSA — yet it clearly shows his promise. The knife has been meticulously cared for and is in new condition. It is exceptionally rare to find one of Willem’s fixed blade knives and this is a tremendous opportunity of a Willem Steenkamp collector.
The blade is hand ground stainless steel. The spine is fileworked for a secure, comfortable thumb purchase. The left side of the blade features Willems mark: W F Steenkamp Custom Knives RSA.
Red bushwillow handle scales are set on the full tang for strength and durability. They are set in place with stainless pins and a lanyard tube. South African red bushwillow (Combretum apiculatum) has great figure and a nice dark warm tone. Fiber spacers assist the natural wood to adjust to temperature and humidity changes.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched pouch style leather sheath, also featuring Willem’s makers mark.
