: Van Barnett’s knives have a flowing sense of movement and lines rarely found in work by other bladesmiths. His work has a level of refinement gleaned from working along side Dellana. This knife is part of Barnett’s Time Machine Series. Earlier works in the series drew inspiration from the 1890s. This is the first of five knives to be made in a sub-series Van is calling the Vader series. Here, he has moved from the 1890s to 4140. Futuristic, sleek lines travel throughout this masterpiece.
The bold mosaic damascus blade is gun blued, brining out bronze, green, and purple tones. The flat has five piercings set against a textured background. The spine is meticulously fileworked. The blade rotates outward on Teflon washers. It is effortlessly opened using the inconspicuous flipper tab. Van’s skill shows that Teflon washers can still produce some of the smoothest action found anywhere in the knife world.
The handle combines O1 carbon steel with bronze rivets and hidden screws. Stacked layers of O1 carbon steel are differentially finished and gun blued using Brownells OXYNATE NO. 7. For more than 55 years, OXYNATE NO. 7 has been the preferred bluing salts for the professional gun trade. The liners are created from titanium and have been gold anodized. Fully fileworked. Each of the pins and screws were handmade for this exquisite knife
